The public is invited to observe a flag retirement ceremony at the Columbia Historical Museum in West Columbia on Thursday, the Fourth of July.

The American flag has always been a symbol of freedom known around the world. While the idea of an American flag may be eternal, a flag used regularly only has a limited lifespan. When an American flag becomes worn and faded, it is time to retire it. This retirement is to be done with reverence and the respect owed to one of our nation’s most beloved symbols.

Join the Columbia Historical Museum Thursday as flags will be retired. The event starts at 2 p.m. at the museum, located at 247 East Brazos Avenue in downtown West Columbia. in case of rain, a short ceremony will be performed inside the museum.
