Columbia Historical Museum will be hosting a special open house Thursday, May 18th, during regular business hours in celebration of the Brazoria County Museum Alliance’s “International Museum Day.” Posing with the banner that is now on display in front of the museum at 247 East Brazos Avenue in West Columbia are, from left, new Columbia Historical Museum manager/curator Michael Bailey, and CHM directors Jo Frances Chastain, Naomi Smith and Betty Blackmon. Naomi Smith, president of the local museum’s board of trustees, invites the public to visit the West Columbia museum Thursday between the hours of 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. for cookies and punch while viewing the many historical displays in the museum and nearby Rosenwald School.

West Columbia Mayor Laurie Kincannon has declared Thursday, May 18, 2023, “Museum Day” in the city that was the first capitol of the Republic of Texas in 1836-37. Thursday will be “International Museum Day,” according to the Brazoria County Museum Alliance. The public is invited to attend an open house between the hours of 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. this Thursday at the Columbia Historical Museum in downtown West Columbia.
