Every Saturday in the month of February will feature special displays and programs that put the spotlight on Black community leaders from the West Columbia area’s past at the Columbia Historical Museum, 247 East Brazos Avenue.
Columbia Historical Museum Board President Naomi Smith encourages the public to visit West Columbia’s museum to experience the free programs the museum has in store throughout “Black History Month.”
An open house is planned at the museum from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on the first and third Saturdays of the month on February 3rd and 17th. Artifacts of Black History in the West Columbia area will be on display throughout the month of February. Light refreshments will be served at the museum each Saturday in February, Smith said.
On Saturday, February 10th, the choir from Holy Trinity Church will be performing under the direction of Rev. Anthony Hall at 10 a.m. Everyone is welcome to attend.
And on Saturday, February 24th, alumni from the last class of Black students who attended classes at the Rosenwald School when it was in East Columbia are invited to visit the historic Rosenwald School at its current location behind the West Columbia museum. This final open house in February will last from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The public is invited.
