The Columbia Historical Museum’s First Saturday of the Month program for February 7th at the historic Rosenwald School will inform those in attendance about Charlie Brown, who at the time of his death in 1920 was the wealthiest Black man in Texas. Educating young Black children in the West Columbia and East Columbia area in the days of racial segregation was at the top of Charlie Brown’s philanthropic goals. He shared his wealth by donating land and money to build local schools and churches in the West Columbia area. Saturday’s event at the Rosenwald School, located at the intersection of Broad and Clay streets in West Columbia, is free. The program is aimed at entertaining children but all are welcome. Those attending this Saturday between 10:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. will be instructed on creating “a no sew unity quilt” by Columbia Historical Museum volunteers. For more information about Saturday’s program, call the museum at (979) 345-6125.
